Wise Words for Wednesday (Yes, I love alliteration!)

It is not death that a man should fear, but he should fear never beginning to live. ~Marcus Aurelius

When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive – to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love. ~Marcus Aurelius

The best revenge is to be unlike him who performed the injury.
~Marcus Aurelius

Do every act of your life as if it were your last. ~ Marcus Aurelius

Our life is what our thoughts make it. ~ Marcus Aurelius

The only wealth which you will keep forever is the wealth you have given away. ~ Marcus Aurelius

Whatever the universal nature assigns to any man at any time is for the good of that man at that time. ~ Marcus Aurelius

A veiw from the Colosseum in Rome

A veiw from the Colosseum in Rome

I’m in a bit of a contemplative mood this afternoon and was reading some wonderful quotes from Marcus Aurelius, Roman Emperor from 161-180.  According to Encyclopedia Brittanica, his work “The Meditations, the thoughts of a philosopher-king, have been considered by many generations one of the great books of all times.”  I wasn’t really looking for a history lesson today, but I think there is much wisdom in his words.  I hope you enjoy them too.

The photo was taken while I was inside the Colosseum in Rome, looking out over the city.  I thought a view from Rome would be a nice complement to Marcus Aurelius’ words! 🙂
