This week’s WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge happens to be Good Morning! Most mornings for me start out with me getting out of bed and turning my alarm off and then going about the usual morning activities; getting dressed, fixing my hair, doing my makeup, feeding the animals, etc. Today was a little different.
Starting Friday morning and continuing through Saturday afternoon, Rapid City received a massive amount of snowfall, which is usually unheard of at this time of year. I’ve heard up to 30 inches of snow fell in Rapid City and over 40 in the surrounding hills! Craziness!! So, for me, this morning started out with me getting up, getting dressed, putting on my boots, getting my shovel and helping to unbury my car and work towards getting my driveway cleared of snow. My dad VERY generously offered to help and brought his snowblower over to my house. It saved me a tremendous amount of time! I am so grateful for his help and so grateful to have power again after about 27 hours of it being out.

What the driveway started out looking like – Saturday morning. The snow didn’t stop until nearly 1:00 pm Saturday
Not a typical morning, but a good one with a sense of accomplishment!! 🙂
Unwillingly and very hesitantly, I clicked the “Like”. I feel for you having snow this early. I am not at all looking forward to it here and I will be missing Mississippi!
From what I hear, this is one that only comes around every two decades or so. We rarely have storms this bad, and never this early! I’ve heard the Farmer’s Almanac says the winter is supposed to be cold and dry. I’m not a fan of extreme cold, but I can handle it much better than accompanied by the massive snow. My back and shoulders are too wimpy to be doing this much shoveling all winter 😉
I lived in Denver in 2003 when we got 34 inches in March. Don’t you love how a snowstorm like this brings everyone out at the same time and neighbors help neighbors? We met so many new people on our street during those few days of digging out.
Yes, how true! It’s easy to find someone that can use a helping hand, and many hands make light work. Even so, I hope not to see another one of those storms again. There are still thousands of people without power. Hopefully the warm temps the next couple days will help the electric line crews to get all up and running very soon! Thanks so much for your nice comment! 🙂
I feel for you Beth
Thank you, Anyes! Now that the power is on, life is good 🙂 The snow is very pretty, I’d just prefer not quite so much at once 😉
I hope it will melt soon 🙂
Thanks! It’s definitely making progress, Anyes. At this point there are more tree branches on the ground in most places than snow. I definitely feel for those who lost some of their big, beautiful trees. Luckily for me, mine little trees survived.

Condolences! It’s way too early to be dealing with snow! Being in the Chicago area, I know it is coming someday soon, but I don’t even want to think about it!
Thank you, Pamela! I’m hoping that this was just a fluke and that the rest of the winter is, as the Farmer’s Almanac apparently says, “cold and dry”. I would imagine that in a big city like Chicago a snowstorm like this one would be catastrophic!! Here’s hoping for a mild winter for both of us 🙂
Wow 🙂 very impressive.
Thank you, Violet!! It was quite a storm! I don’t know if I’ve ever seen one that dropped so much snow in such a short period of time! Not sure I want to see one like it again, either 😉 Thanks for your comment!

Wow, that is a whole lot of snow on a good day, but downright rude to have it take over your world in early October! Three cheers for Dad!
Thank you, Jim! I am VERY grateful for my dad’s help. I don’t know how I would have gotten all of that snow moved without his help. It was definitely unexpected. We did have warnings that a storm was coming in, but I never every dreamed THIS would happen in October!

Looks like a beautiful and quite chilly morning!!
When the sun came out, it was a truly beautiful sight after being stuck in the house with blizzard conditions for 2 days. Hopefully there won’t be a repeat of that storm anytime soon! 😉
