The adventure begins…

Life is either a great adventure or nothing.

Helen Keller

Next week at this time both my host daughters will have arrived! What an exciting time!!

Kudos to these two brave girls with a grand sense of adventure, willing to leave their families for the entire school year . They are curious about a different culture and willing to step out of their comfort zones to experience that.

The wonderful thing about them taking that leap of faith and daring to take a chance and to have that adventure is that not only will they get to share our culture, but they will share theirs as well. I think it is a great benefit to their fellow classmates to learn about what is similar and what is different between their home countries and our own.

One of the best things about hosting is to watch the kids blossom and adapt to new situations. I expect that my host daughters will be quite overwhelmed initially, but I will help however I can and I am certain that in no time they will discover confidence with the language, their classes and newly formed friendships. They will carry this confidence with them in future endeavors and will make memories that they will always treasure.

Adventure is worthwhile.

We already have our own adventures planned for their year here. I have so much to look forward to with these two❤ The only thing I don’t look forward to is having to say goodbye at the end of the school year.

Good on you Beth. It is always fun to play host and share your home with exchange students. Wishing you the best. Allan

What are their countries of origin?

    • Beth W. says:

Mara is from Germany and Marta is from Spain. The crest on the flag from Spain was quite intricate and challenging, so I went with more of an abstract on that one. 😄

  3. Looks like a great idea hosting students.

It is so rewarding! I am beyond excited that they are arriving this week! I hope the week ahead is filled with memorable moments for you too! 😊

  4. Good for you, Beth! I used to be host son, and my host mom helped me a lot to adapt to an American culture. That is my best memory. I hope you can have a wonderful experience with your host daughters!

Thank you so much HiRO! 🙂 I have hosted several exchange students and I still feel that they are all part of my family. ❤ It is such a fantastic experience for everyone, I think!!

I can’t wait to hear all about it! 🙂 Those are lucky girls! to have you as their host mom!

Mara arrived today but her luggage took the scenic route. 🙃 Hopefully we can get it tomorrow! Need to figure out Straight Talk for her phone, but we will just find some professionals to help with that. 😀 It was a very stressful day for the poor girl, but she kept smiling. 😁 Hopefully a restful night’s sleep will do wonders for her. 😁 The best adventures aren’t without challenges, but we are up for them!!

      • janieleeds says:

You are a blessing Beth! I am sure she will feel better after a restful sleep in your peaceful home! I hope her luggage arrives quickly! How lovely that Mara’s arrived!! Now let the fun begin!! 🙂

        • Beth W. says:

Thank you Janie! ❤ We got her registered for classes and got the cell phone working, so now she is set…haha! 😉 No luggage yet, but we are headed back to the airport tonight to hopefully pick it up! Once Marta arrives Friday night, I plan to do an update 🙂 It definitely will be fun! So much to do! 🙂

          • janieleeds says:

So exciting! I’m so glad things are unfolding well now. Fingers crossed for luggage! 🙂 And safe arrival of Marta! 🙂

          • Beth W. says:

Thank you Janie! 😊❤😊 The luggage continues to be a thing, but we are going shopping tomorrow so Mara will have clothes for school next week. Marta arrived safely and WITH luggage, praise God! 😇 She was exhausted and we ran her ragged today with a day in the hills and a visit to Mount Rushmore. She will sleep well, no doubt and she can sleep in! 😊❤😊 I have an early breakfast date with a new suitor. We have actually been to lunch several times. Not sure exactly where it is heading, but he is okay giving me time to figure it out. Seems like life goes from blah to WOAH in the blink of an eye. 😅

          • janieleeds says:

Beth I have a huge grin on my face for so many wonderful reasons! I am thrilled to hear all this good news (with the exception of the lost luggage, I hope that comes soon!). I can’t wait to hear about this suitor…take your time and enjoy the special moments…WOAH IS WONDERFUL!!! 💗💕💗

What a nice way to bring European culture back to the U.S. when so many cannot visit there now because of COVID.

    • Beth W. says:

They are both wonderful representatives for their countries! We just got Marta registered for classes and they think their new school looks like “High School Musical” 😉 They are excited to have the American high school experience, but have been very open to sharing the way things are in their respective countries ❤
