Back to Me

If you are lonely when you’re alone, you’re in bad company.

Jean-Paul Sartre

Last night I threw myself a little pity party. Sometimes I need to get out of my own head, I think. I tend to overthink things and my mind was in overdrive last night. Why, I asked myself, am I spending Saturday night all alone? My mind quickly stepped in to answer me….. because nobody cares about you. I wallowed in that for a little bit and then decided I needed to get off that thought track before I started a nosedive into “negativity land”.

There are so many things I enjoy doing alone, and if I can’t be happy alone, I won’t be good company for anybody else.

My message to myself…rethink alone time! ❤

I ended up working on some little watercolors, taking a bath and catching up on (almost all) the latest episodes of “And Just Like That”. It surely wasn’t the terrible tragedy I initially made it out to be.

This morning I started thinking of all the things I enjoy doing and made a mental list of them. I am beyond capable of finding fun things to do even when I am by myself. Here’s what I came up with:

  • Play with my watercolors
  • Watch an episode of a show I enjoy
  • Read a book
  • Work on a puzzle
  • Feed the birds and squirrels
  • Write a letter to a friend
  • Work on my sweepstakes
  • Journal
  • Write a blog post
  • Take a nap
  • Make cookies
  • Do some laundry (not as fun 😉)
  • Go shopping
  • Play with my puppy

I have to remember my Dad’s favorite saying, “Life is What You Make It.” I will make today a better day! 😊

Your Dad is a smart man. I recall being in a dental chair a long time ago and reading a poster “Change your thoughts and you will change your world.” It is tough not to feel alone or lonely at times, especially during this pandemic. Stay well Beth and feel better. Allan

    • Beth W. says:

Thank you Allan! I always appreciate your positive outlook! I agree 100% about changing one’s thoughts. Happily, I was able to push the negative aside and today will be a much better day. Hope yours is wonderful 😊

  2. Great that you could get back into painting

I have to admit that when first reading this quote, I wasn’t in agreement with it. However, with your picturingpositive explanation, I now understand it’s meaning. Thank you❣️

What a great idea to make a list of activities one likes to do by themself.

    • Beth W. says:

Thank you Nora. ❤😊❤ I just needed to change my mindset from, “I’m lonely.” to “I have an evening to do anything I want to.” Thanks for reading and for always supporting me. ❤ Love you! ❤

I’m sorry you had a lonely Saturday night. I’ve had a bunch of them, holidays too, and they’re not a lot of fun. But an occasional one is easier to handle especially when YOU decide that you can have time to yourself to enjoy doing all those beautiful watercolors that you did! Sending huge hugs. You are very much cared about here in the blogosphere…don’t worry. We’re here for you Beth! You’re an amazing friend. Love to you! ❤️

Oh, you are just so sweet, Cathy❤. I am very grateful for you taking the time to read it. I try to stay in the positive side, but, like everyone, I definitely have my days. 😉❤😉

The activities you listed definitely fall under the category of self-care, something we all need to keep in mind.

    • Beth W. says:

Most definitely 🙂 I know that for my own mental health, I need to take some time for me or I start to feel overwhelmed and to feel like I need too much reinforcement from others. I want to reach the point where I am totally at peace with spending time alone. Thanks so much for reading ❤

  8. Really nice pictures!!! You are talented. I wish I could draw like this. I am never so confident WHEN I am drawing. My drawing is always awful.

You are very sweet. 😊 Don’t sell yourself short, though! I took a community ed drawing class a few years back, and it was incredibly helpful. He taught us to break everything down to the smaller parts and to draw what we see. I feel like I have gotten better at copying what I see. 😉 We are always our own worst critics. Thank you so much for reading and for taking the time to leave such a kind comment. 😊
