Daily Prompt: She Drives Me Crazy

Crazyperson

Today’s WordPress Daily Prompt is “She Drives Me Crazy”.   Krista says,

It makes me crazy when people wear their shoes in my house. What habit/act drives you crazy? How do you prevent it from happening?

Upon reflecting on this directive, I’ve decided that I have quite a few things that drive me there, including people wearing shoes in my house! 😉   Here’s a list of some of my “biggies”:

  • Hypocrites – Seeing posts or hearing comments from people who act the exact opposite of how they tell me (or everyone else) to. (How to prevent it:  Avoid those people, I guess.)
  • Classes/Parties, etc. where I have to introduce myself in front of everyone and tell something about myself.  (My solution:  Don’t attend those parties.  For classes, I just have to get through it as quickly as possible.)
  • When I have an event/program/movie to attend and the people going with me are late and then proceed to dawdle and poke around so we are even later! (How to prevent it:  Give those people the tickets in advance and just meet them at the event.)
  • Finding a trash can that is (over) full with things spilling over the top because people (usually my kids) would rather stuff just ONE more thing in than empty it and put a new bag in. (How to remedy this:  Nag my kids, but usually I just end up ranting to myself like a crazy lady as I bundle the trash up and take it out to the garage. 😉 )
  • My cat getting into the cupboard and ripping open his cat food bag.  He’s done this sometimes when he still has food in his bowl!  (The solution:  Keep his food in a plastic container (but sometimes it just doesn’t quite all fit in there!))
  • Solicitors, both telephone and door-to-door.  It’s NEVER a good time for it!  I know, they’re just trying to make a living, but they do drive me crazy! (To prevent it, I can avoid answering my door and phone, but they’ll just come back or call back if I don’t, so I usually just deal with them at the time.)
  • The seemingly endless winter we’ve had this year!!!  I REALLY hope that after the blizzard conditions today that the weather will start to give us more nice days than nasty ones. (Unfortunately, I have no control over this one.   Wouldn’t it be nice, though?!)

I have more that I could add, but I’ll stop there for now.  I know that I’m probably on the other end of some people’s “crazy” lists, and because of that I try to be tolerant! 😉   Here’s hoping your Monday is as crazy-free as it can be! 🙂

This too shall pass

I need to remember this today!

Never cut a tree down in the wintertime.  Never make a negative decision in the low time.  Never make your most important decisions when you are in your worst moods.  Wait.  Be patient.  The storm will pass.  The spring will come.  ~ Robert H. Schuller

WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge: Inside

In my entry for this week’s WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge, there is a hippo looking out from the inside of its enclosure.  The topic for this week’s challenge is “Inside”.   I love the way the hippo is surrounded by fish that do not seem to be bothered one bit by the hippo.  In doing a little research, I learned that hippos do not eat fish and in fact have a symbiotic relationship in which the hippo gets cleaned when fish eat the insects, parasites and dead skin from the hippo and some fish even clean food particles from the hippos mouth!  Pretty cool the way nature works!!

My Three Little Piggies

This is my second entry this week for the WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge.  The theme for this week is “Three” and I couldn’t resist sharing a photo of my piggy canisters.   Papa pig holds the flour, Mama pig holds the sugar and Baby pig holds the brown sugar.  Making yummy baked goods just wouldn’t be the same without them! 😉  Be sure to check out all the other wonderful entries at the link above!

Wednesday Wishes for Warmer Weather!

I KNOW I’m not the only one longing for springtime temperatures and an end to the seemingly eternal winter that has descended upon a large part of the country!  On one of our all too fleeting warm days last week, I even noticed the tiniest bit of a daffodil trying to peek through the ground.  I wish I could tell it that as much as I’m longing to see it, there are too many frosty mornings in the very near future for it to attempt popping up quite yet!  Until the wintry weather finally leaves us and I can enjoy my fresh flowers once again, I’ll take solace in the photos from last spring and look forward to seeing those blossoming beauties once again when Old Man Winter finally decides to pack his bags and hit the road!  In the meantime, here are a few quotes to give us hope:

No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow.  ~Proverb

Awake, thou wintry earth –
Fling off thy sadness!
Fair vernal flowers, laugh forth
Your ancient gladness!
~Thomas Blackburn, “An Easter Hymn”

No winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn.  ~Hal Borland

Where man sees but withered leaves,
God sees sweet flowers growing.
~Albert Laighton

Weekly WordPress Photo Challenge: Treasure

What is this? A hunk of junk or a glittering pile of treasure?

What is this? A hunk of junk or a glittering pile of treasure?

Treasure your relationships, not your possessions.  ~ Anthony J. D’Angelo

This week’s WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge is “Treasure”.   The challenge directs us to “capture something you treasure.”  It might be something that wouldn’t seem like treasure to anyone but you.  The first thing that came to mind is something of my grandmother’s that may not have great monetary value, but is worth more to me than diamonds or gold.  It is a charm bracelet that I was fortunate to be able to have gotten after she died.  She collected charms throughout the years from places she had been and things that were meaningful to her.  As a child, one of the things I loved to do at Grandma’s house was to get her charm bracelet out and gently run the little charms through my fingers.  I know she had a story for every charm, although I’m hard pressed to remember them now.

I deliberately blurred the first photo because to the casual observer, this bracelet might look like just a piece of costume jewelry, not standing out from any other piece.    Upon taking a closer look, the detailed charms can be seen.

By focusing on the details, all the charms can be seen.

By focusing on the details, all the charms can be seen.

The little hen that opens to show baby chicks underneath, the little puppy, the Golden Gate Bridge, the tiny telephone, and a tiny mailbox are all there.  Most importantly, there is the little charm containing the mustard seed, which had very special meaning to my grandma.  That was in reference to her favorite quote from the Bible,

And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. –  Matthew 17:20

My grandma was a very special person and I loved her so much and miss her.  Her birthday would be coming up this week and although I’m not sure that birthdays are celebrated in Heaven, I know that when I wear her bracelet on her birthday she will know that she is still loved and missed by me and so many others.

Hugs to you in Heaven, Grandma!

Hugs to you in Heaven, Grandma!

This bracelet is a treasure because of the memories of my grandma that are attached to it.   It is also a reminder to me that I should cherish the special people in my life while I have them here.

Thanks for reading about my treasure!  Make sure to click the link to the WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge above to see all the other clever and creative entries!

I Believe in Angels!

My angels are definitely watching over me and showering me with blessings!

My angels are definitely watching over me and showering me with blessings!

The doodle above is one that I wrote in a little journal I use to jot down prayers, intentions, whatever I might be thinking about or longing for. Last Tuesday evening, I was reflecting on how fortunate I am.

I wrote most of the doodle above on that evening. On the evening of January 22nd, however, I added the Thank You to the message. That morning I received a call from Jenny from Fulfillment Services Marketing giving me one last chance to accept the GRAND PRIZE in the Swarovski Passport to Sparkle! Sweepstakes. An email had been sent out on the 13th of January. I reinstalled the data on my iPhone that same day and apparently lost the email somewhere in the reinstall process. Jenny was sweet enough to call to make sure I had the opportunity to accept. I’m pretty sure my angels were a part of that fortuitous call!

As the single grand prize winner, I will receive $1000 worth of Swarovski jewelry, a 5 day trip for 2 to Rio de Janeiro, $500/person spa services, a jeep tour of the rainforest and $1000 spending money!!!! WOW!! I am over the moon excited about it! I’ve never been to Brazil and am eager to visit!

I am most definitely a blessed and lucky person, but I truly believe that everyone who asks and is receptive to help from their angels can receive it. I started reading a book by Lorna Byrne last night, “Angels In My Hair – The True Story of a Modern-Day Irish Mystic”. It is a fascinating read. She has been seeing and talking to angels since she was a baby and shares some wonderful stories in her book. She stated several times in the book that our angels need only be asked and they will help us. Byrne says, “We need not wait until we are desperate and in great pain to ask for this assistance; we should be asking every day, or every month, or once a year: “I want my angels with me through everything I do.” This simple request will empower the angels to help us.” (pp.62-63)

Whether you believe in them or not, there are angels waiting to help you with any problem you are experiencing and to celebrate in the joyous occasions in your life. Just ask for their help and they’ll be there. Looking back on my life, there are many times where I know the intervention of angels helped my family and friends. One instance that comes immediately to mind occurred when I was very young and my youngest brother was a mere infant. Car seats were not the norm back then and I was riding with my siblings in the back of our station wagon. My youngest brother somehow managed to open the door while we were travelling down Fairmont Boulevard, a fairly busy street. My mom didn’t hear the door and continued driving and my brother nearly fell out, but I was able to grab him and keep him in the car. I alerted my mom who immediately stopped the car. I know there were angels watching over all of us that day. My mom has a guardian angel that has had to put in some overtime hours and has kept her safe through two heart attacks and an aortic bypass surgery. My family has some powerful angels on guard for us. That being said, sometimes we have to go through painful or difficult events because there is a lesson we need to learn and grow from. In these times, we can ask our angels to provide comfort or to help us to find a solution to a problem.

When our angels do come through for us and help us, as in any other situation, I think it’s only right and fair to tell them thank you! I’m sure the number of good deeds done by angels go largely unrecognized, so when we do find ourselves the beneficiary of a serendipitous circumstance it might be nice to give some credit and gratitude to our angels.

In good times and in bad, I am so incredibly thankful to my guardian angel and any other angels that are with me! They have kept me safe and provided me with many amazing opportunities and experiences. Thank you, my awesome angels!!

Romeo’s Traumatic Day

Actually, my dog I think is the only person who consistently loves me all the time. ~ H.G. Bissinger

Dogs don’t rationalize.  They don’t hold anything against a person.  They don’t see the outside of a human but the inside of a human. ~ Cesar Millan

Let sleeping dogs lie. ~ Robert Walpole

RomeoPostSurgery

Thank heaven that dogs don’t hold things against people.  Today Romeo was neutered and I feel terrible putting him through that.  I know it’s for the best and will save him from some health risks and potential bad behavior in the future, but it is hard to see him in pain.  He’s been looking at me with those sad puppy dog eyes as if to say, “How could you?”.    The little collar keeps him from biting at the incision area, but he’s not happy at all having it on.  Thankfully he’s resting at the moment and I’m looking forward to having my peppy Papillon back before long!

Weekly WordPress Photo Challenge: Family

This week’s Word Press Weekly Photo Challenge is Family.  Families come in all shapes and sizes.  I think we all will gain and lose family members many times in our lives, but we will always be connected to those people.   I believe families ARE forever.

What greater thing is there for human souls than to feel that they are joined for life – to be with each other in silent unspeakable memories.
– George Eliot

Even when you die, you’re still part of a family.  It’s nice to remember and be remembered even if you’re gone. ~ Juanita Garza

Weekly Photo Challenge: Joy

Here’s my very last-minute entry for this week’s WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge: Joy

Joy is not in things; it is in us. ~ Richard Wagner

These are but a few of the photos that express joy to me. I find joy in the smiles of my kids! I completely agree with the words of Richard Wagner above, that joy is inside us and that we do not need a vast array of material possessions to find joy. It can be found in the simple things in life!
