When Mother Nature gives you sunflowers…

This is Mother Nature's way of letting me know that I have a LONG way to go before I'm a Master Gardener!

Gardening EPIC FAIL! This is Mother Nature’s way of letting me know that I have a LONG way to go before I’m a Master Gardener!

don’t try to transplant them!!!

Every time I start to think I’m a Master Gardener, Mother Nature, life, karma, what have you, sends me a very clear message that I’m just a little gardening novice in the grand scheme of the gardening universe!

This (formerly beautiful) sunflower was starting to grow a few steps outside my back garage door and I let it go for far too long because I love sunflowers.  Yesterday, I got the brilliant idea to transplant it to the space formerly occupied by some tulips and daffodils.

As you can see, the resulting horror will keep me from getting a big head (when it comes to gardening, anyway!) 😉 And from now on, I will let the sunflowers bloom where they plant themselves 😉

A volunteer sunflower, probably from seeds dropped by one of my fine feathered friends!

A volunteer sunflower, probably from seeds dropped by one of my fine feathered friends! I’ve learned my lesson, so this one gets to live out the rest of its days with no fear of me and my transplanting shovel of doom.
