Aurora in San Diego, once again making the most of the opportunity to see all the little creatures in the tide pools!

…my little monkey, aka my daughter, Aurora!  Today she made me especially proud by willing to be open & flexible when her schedule got switched around.  She’s been participating in a Cartooning class at our local Dahl Fine Arts Center from 1-4 PM every day and was anticipating a slow morning at my office until it was time for class in the afternoon.

When I received an email from our local Outdoor Campus (sent at 7:00 am, but first seen by me at 9:00 am!!) saying that a slot in the Rock Climbing Class had opened up for the 10:00-11:00 am slot, I let her know right away.  I expected excitement, but at first was met with apathy.  She wanted to stay at the office and relax instead.   I attempted my very best encouraging voice as I told her that it was a good opportunity, especially since it would be the last class of the summer and she had been wait listed the previous two times we tried to sign her up.

I could almost see the tug of war going on in her cute little head.  She REALLY didn’t want to, but finally she agreed to “go with the flow” and to take advantage of the opportunity.   We dashed back home to get appropriate shoes for climbing since she was wearing flip-flops and then on to the Outdoor Campus!

Turns out she got to scale the wall not just once, but several times and she had a great time doing so!  I’m very proud of her for going to the Rock Climbing class even when she wasn’t initially very enthused about it.  The easier thing to do would have been to lounge around the office, but she didn’t.  By doing so, she learned a great lesson about getting more out of life.   I don’t know if she remembers what the words Carpe Diem mean, but that’s what she did today!  Seize the Day!  Make the most of the opportunities life gives you! 🙂
