My second post for the Weekly Photo Challenge this week is a masterpiece of nature; leafy sea dragons! These beautiful little creatures absolutely fascinate me because they look like something from another world. I had never seen nor heard of anything so exquisite until I saw them at the Birch Aquarium at Scripps in La Jolla, CA.
I hope you enjoy them too!
Beautiful, and as you say rather otherworldly …..
Yes, and so graceful and delicate also. Thanks for commenting! Have a great weekend!

I have seen these, too. They are absolutely amazing!
They are definitely a creature that is unforgettable! Unfortunately, here in the midwest, we don’t get to see marine life very often, so I love to get the chance when I visit somewhere! Thanks for commenting!
Amazing! I’d love to have an aquarium full to look at all day. Beautiful!
I couldn’t agree more! They are mesmerizing! Thanks for commenting!

Looks delicate but formidable. I wouldn’t want to tangle with them.
Probably wise, likeitz! The description only said that they are found in Australia and didn’t mention natural defenses. I might have to look into that. Thanks for the comment!

Some great info on Sea Dragons if you’re curious. Sadly, this article says that they have no known predators, but that humans are taking them from their habitats and depleting their numbers. Since 1991, they’ve been a protected species.

Wonderful masterpiece of disguise!
Yes, when I first walked up to the tank, it wasn’t until they started swimming that I realized they were not decorative seaweed. They definitely have a great natural camouflage. Thanks for the comment! 🙂
