ELO Discovery (1979) – Featuring the awesome songs “Shine A Little Love”, “Confusion”, “Last Train to London”, “Don’t Bring Me Down” and my all time favorite “Midnight Blue”

ELO Time Album (1981) – Featuring the all time great songs “The Way Life’s Meant To Be”, “Rain Is Falling”, “The Lights Go Down” and “Hold On Tight”
Today’s WordPress Daily Prompt: Fly On The Wall asks If you could be a “fly on the wall” anywhere and at any time in history, where and when would you choose?”
While I realize this leaves a HUGE variety of times and places to choose from, and I also realize that my choice may seem trivial, I choose to be at the tour for Electric Light Orchestra’s Time album. Actually, I’d just attach myself to a small corner in the ELO tour bus from October 1, 1981 to November 8th, 1981 and fly out each night to see all 30 of the shows on the tour!
I first developed an appreciation for ELO around 7th grade. I was a bit of a misfit; well, no, pretty much a total misfit and I could escape and find my happy place in their amazing synthesized melodies and harmonies. After hearing “Shine A Little Love”, I wanted to hear more and soon purchased the “Discovery” album. I was hooked! Later in 1981, ELO released the Time album and along with that album release was a tour. I read all about it in Dynamite, a wonderful magazine for telling those of us who grew up in the 70s and 80s who and what was cool! I remember the article about ELO and the poster (every issue had one or two posters!) that showed the band performing in a stage made to look like a giant UFO. SO INCREDIBLY AWESOME! I used to listen to the songs on that album over and over and over again and imagine myself enjoying their concert firsthand. I never did get to see ELO perform live on stage, but if I were a fly on the wall, I’d be right there!
How about you? Would you opt for a more significant historical moment or would you choose a moment with more personal value?
